Nick has discovered how to skip the lines at airports – request special assistance! In all seriousness, we have always had much respect for those that live with a handicap, but have even more respect after our travels to London.

We made our way via taxi to Aeroporta di Genova Thursday morning, and in true American fashion arrived early – a little too early. I read on our tickets because we were not EU citizens that we would need to have our visas checked prior to going through security. When we arrived we saw no counter for RyanAir, so we proceeded to security, where we were stopped in our tracks, after already unloading our stuff into the scanner. Luckily they allowed Nick to continue through and I went back to try to figure out what to do, apparently they all share check-in desks and ours wouldn’t open until 2 prior to our flight. Thankfully a nice man from security came and got me and had another agent check our passports/tickets and I followed him back to security, thankfully bypassing the now long line 🙂
I had requested a wheelchair within the airport for Nick, but we didn’t know what an experience this was going to be. We were taken down the ramp, loaded onto a truck and transported to the plane where they lifted us to the back door, as this was a flight that you took the stairs onto.  Needless to say even though we had a reserved special assistance seat, there is by no means any additional leg room to these seats.

After we disembarked the plane, we made our way through customs out to lot where all the transfer buses are located.  We flew into London Stansted due to the flights being cheaper, but unfortunately we still had an hour bus ride into the city in front of us.  Luckily the bus dropped us off two tube stops from our hotel!

On bus from Stansted to Liverpool St – excited to be in London!

Prior to our trip to London, Nick had been scoping out craft beer locations.  He found this place online that had good reviews and just a short bus ride from the hotel, The Holborn Whippet.  It did not disappoint, it was a fun little bar, that was quite the happening place on Thursday evening.  They had several beers on draught and the staff was very friendly.  They had a small bar food menu, but we decided to go ahead and grab something there.  Nick had a burger and fries, while I ordered the German Brat and plate of fries.  It was delicious!  After a couple of beverages and dinner we made our way back to the hotel to plane for our next day of travel in the City!
