Milano 09.26.2013, a set on Flickr.
The day trip on Thursday was to Milan and I was so excited to go that I forgot my train tickets! On Tuesday I asked Silvia if I could go, at which time she bought my tickets. She had already purchased them for the students, so theirs was in a block. She emailed my ticket to me and even printed it out. The night before I had my bag all packed for our early morning departure. Last minute on Thursday I decided to take the iPad to do some studying on the train and apparently took my tickets out and laid them on the bed, put the iPad in my bag and failed to put the tickets back in! Luckily I realized I forgot them before I boarded the bus for the station. One of the students ran back up to the villa with me to fetch them, we then called for a cab and made it within minutes of the other students arriving. I was so upset with myself for being so irresponsible, but in the end it worked out.
Our train arrived in Milan about two hours later and we first enjoyed some of the beautiful Basilica’s. I had lunch with one of the students in the piazza in front of the Duomo.
I have been to a lot of cathedral, castles and such, but I think that this was by far the most amazing structure that I have been in. Unfortunately there was construction of the cathedral going on and a lot of the back side was wrapped with scaffolding, as well as the dome. After touring the inside, we took an elevator to the top! What an amazing view of the city, but also an amazing perspective of this massive cathedral. Rumor has it the one in Florence is even bigger, so I am even more excited to go there now!
Afterwards we walked through the Galleria, where I did my 360 spin on Torino’s bull for good luck!
All in all, it was a lovely day but I was eager to get home as I have been battling a nasty headache for the past few days and still had a paper for school to write.
When we got home Lucia, Cristina and their husbands were still cooking and baking away in the kitchen for the Villa Party. Everything looks so delicious and I am so excited to have fun evening!
