In order to save money we traveled to Milan to get to Paris, while this sounded like a good idea, unfortunately the amount of time we spent traveling didn’t seem worth it. We chose the last train back from Milan to save a few euros, but that meant spending five hours in the train station. I think next time we’ll think twice about this, as we probably spent the equivalent of that ticket in food and drinks while waiting.

Friday night we enjoyed a nice dinner at a restaurant in Boccadasse with Anna and Luca. I had anchovies for the first time, while I doubt that I will order them again, I have to admit they weren’t bad. We ate at a seafood restaurant, Osvaldo Antica Trattoria, thankfully Luca was kind enough to switch dishes with me as what I ordered was a little to seafoody tasting for my liking 😉 For dessert we had the most delicious panna cotta, we originally ordered one to share but then ended up ordering a second! We had a really nice evening, it was great to get out for the evening.

Saturday evening we ventured out as I wanted to stop by a store at the port that I had wanted to visit since we arrived, Eataly. I have been told they have all good things Italian there, from all over the country so I set out to buy some gifts to take back home.  Unfortunately, it was so crowded and picked over that I only came out with a bag of Kettle Chips and raisin bread – which was delicious by the way. Maybe will we try again when we return from Ohio!  However, the good news is that Nick did not listen to me when I told him in which direction we needed to walk, so therefore we walked way out of our way, but did happen upon a local micro brewery.  We popped in to have a couple drinks and so glad that we walked the wrong way, I only fear that we may never be able to find it again.  Nick and the gentleman chatted, as he spoke a little English. We did find out that they only brew 1000 liters of beer a month – not much at all compared to the breweries in Charlotte.

Finally GOOD beer in Italy!

After making our way back from Eataly we decided to stop in San Nicola before heading home to have pizza at Re Mida.  Luca advised their pizza was better then Pizzaria Castelleto, and I have to agree.

Our delicious pizzas – Nick’s sans cheese?!?!?
Sunday night we met up with Giudi in front of the Ducal Palace, there was a small street fair set up with people selling different goods from meats to cheeses to pesto, jewelry and bags. It was fun to look around while we waited on Giudi to arrive.  We then made our way to a small restaurant nearby for apertivo.  The thing that I love about the places over here is that they are so small and quant, it only had about ten tables in the entire place, if that.  We shared a couple plates of meats and cheeses and had a few beers.  It was nice to be out with her away from the students, we really had not had that opportunity yet.  I hope that with Nick on the mend that we will be able to get out more next semester to have a few more beers with her as we had a wonderful time, as I hope she did as well.

YUM!

It was such a beautiful weekend here in Genova, the sun was shining, making it even more difficult to be flying back to the States tomorrow where the high the other day was 4!  Eeek!
