Tuesday’s day trip this week kept us in Genova visiting all the Palaces.  While one could think that this is where the prince and princess of Genova lived, you would be wrong, nope just the wealthiest of Genovese lived here.  Most of the palaces that we toured have now been turned into banks, but luckily we were still able to enter and get a good look around.  This blog post will be more picture heavy as while Giudi is very informative and knows a lot about everything, my mind is not big enough to contain everything that she speaks about and she often times looses me… hence the photo the man walking his dachshund below 🙂

For lunch Giudi, Nick and I grabbed a table at a small cafe near the palaces called Baribaldi.  I enjoyed a sandwhich with mozzarella, greens and tomato.  While the sun was out, unfortunately the taller buildings blocked its rays from Stadad Nuova and it was quite chilly during our walk, so of course I had to end my pranzo (lunch) with a cup of cioccolata calda (hot chocolate).

One of our last stops of the day was a palace that had the most amazing views over Genova.  We missed this day trip last semester, as this was the exact same day that Nick was having his ankle surgery.  But I am so thankful that we did not miss it this time around.  I could not believe that view, I could have stayed up there all day.  Unfortunately, the landing was able to fit all of us at once so I had to enjoy and quickly move on so that the students could have their turn too, ha ha!

Our tour of the palaces ended at Palazzo del Principe, The Prince’s Palace.  I will have to say it was a little disappointing, as looking back at the old pictures it looked amazing.  Unfortunately, the upkeep of the outside is not that great, and the city of Genova has grown around it, so unless you knew it was formerly a palace, it really not recognizable.  At one time that family had an amazing view of the port, but now when looking out upon the port you just have a view of the freeway…. oh well!
