Today Nick and I had to attend a five hour course on living in Italy. We caught a cab with Silvia, but unfortunalty the location changed from previous years, so therefore it was difficult to locate. Then we found out the entrance we needed was closed and therefore the cab driver took us a little farther. I was so thankful that this entrance had a ramp, enabling Nick to easily enter. As we walked in to the building there were quite a few small children running around, Silvia proceeded to inform us that we were in an elementary school! Oh goodness, this is how we are going to learn about Italy, sitting in a class with children?!?!
Here to find out we needed to be downstairs in the building… and with no elevators in these older building that means taking the stairs or hailing another cab! Silvia and I checked out the situation and reported back to Nick. Nick being Nick, he agreed that he could hop down these steps, which were quite a few.
After we finally made it to our location we were set up on our computer with headphones, only to find out Nick’s didn’t work… We sat around while the lady running the center ran around (we are not 100% sure what she was doing)!
I finally got up to check out our headphone situation to find out that they weren’t even plugged in – UGH! The precious moments we have lost 🙂
Prior to leaving, Silvia relayed that they just informed her that this class was no longer 5 hours, but 10!!!!! Therefore we would need to come back tomorrow, what?!?!?! Unfortunately Nick has his MD appointment and I am headed to Milan with the students, so they were going to try to get this changed. I really can’t believe that we have to sit through another 5 hours of these terribly scripted videos.
Important things that we learned today:
– the death penalty is not permitted
– you have to be over 25 to vote
– how to obtain an Italian drivers license
– how to get my car back if impounded
– pregnant women are obliged to stay at home 2 months and three months after the birth of their child, all while receiving part if their income!
