We met Luca at the train station at 9:05 this morning to take the train about 15 minutes outside of Firenze to he and Lorenzo’s farm house. They are a couple who were in the fashion industry until 2016 when they were exhausted and decided to quit – Lorenza was a designer with Gucci and traveled to all of the fashion weeks/shows. They decided that when they quit they would open their home up for an AirBnB experience cooking their grandmother’s recipes.
We gathered around their large outdoor table with the ten of us to enjoy a caffe. We put a sugary mixture in it which made it oh so good!
Then we made our way into the home to make ourselves comfy. Their home was absolutely wonderful, beautifully decorated and quirky at the same time.
We started with our first dish which was panna cotta, we could decide if we want to mix with lavender, chocolate or caffe. I chose lavender and Nick, chocolate.
Then we made our way to the dining room to start our pasta. Half of us made pasta with coca which was for the tagliatelle sand half regular for the ravioli.
We had a fun group and our host had this down to a science, cleaning the space and moving about where you didn’t even notice.
Throughout the day we had snacks and vino, which you could tell some where not used to holding their own with. Once we had made our pasta and our sauces we sat down to enjoy our meal together, Luca and Lorenzo told us stories about their lives – how they met, the fashion industry, their plans for the future and lots about their families and how they learned to cook (so well).
Luca and Lorenzo then accompanied us back to the train station and bid us ado, we all boarded the train back to S.M. Novella. At this point, our group was pretty tipsy (minus Nick and I) and I felt bad for everyone on the train around us. Once back in the station everyone wanted to go together to a Spritz bar that Luca and Lorenzo told us about. I was more concerned with finding wi fi to check in to see when Giuditta would be joining us, with no wi fi around the Australian girl on our trip gave me her hot spot, Giuditta messaged that she was on the train and would arrive around 6 pm. We joined our new friends at the Spritz bar for a drink and then walked through Santa Croce to go by the leather school before meeting up with Giuditta at the apt.
After she arrived we made our way to a nearby bar that Nick had found to enjoy beers and then found a place where we enjoyed pizza and calzones for a true late night Italian dinner.
Of course by this time I was done for, while our least amount of walking the whole trip, making pasta and keeping up with Giuditta is hard work!
